Preventative Dentistry

dental-chair-teeth-cleaningAt Watts Family Dental, preventative dentistry is the cornerstone of our practice. We strive to help our patients achieve optimal oral health through routine dental care and good habits at home. Preventative dentistry keeps almost all common dental problems from occurring so you can enjoy a bright, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime.

Regular dental visits are an essential part of preventative dentistry. We encourage all of our patients to visit us at least twice per year for a cleaning and checkup to ensure optimum oral health. During each routine visit, your dental hygienist will clean your teeth, removing any harmful dental plaque buildup. Dr. Watts will also perform a thorough examination to check for signs of gum disease, enamel wear, tooth decay, and more. Most common dental problems can be resolved with simple, inexpensive treatments if they are caught early. It’s much less troublesome to prevent a problem than it is to fix it later.

In addition to annual checkups, we encourage our patients to practice good oral hygiene at home. With regular brushing and flossing, you can keep your teeth and gums healthy between bi-annual visits to Watts Family Dental. We recommend brushing twice daily and flossing once daily. Brushing removes surface debris that causes tooth decay, and flossing clears away harmful bacteria that causes gum disease. Lifestyle also plays a big role in preventative dentistry. A healthy, nutritious diet supports dental health by providing the essential vitamins and minerals that keep your teeth strong and healthy. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding sugary drinks prevents tooth decay and other dental problems. At Watts Family Dental, we offer education and support to help our patients develop healthy habits.
